The Super Vacations “Thicker Milk” LP

October 29, 2010
By Dave Miller

Incorporating obvious cues from post-punk, shoegaze, surfer garage rock, and Sub-Pop era grunge, The Super Vacations are a force to be reckoned with.  They have taken the best from the best and left the rest.  Probably one of the most exciting examples of what’s going on in the indie rock world these days.  Tastefully lo-fi enough to be palatable to those of us disciples of the Sacred Bones, Captured Tracks, and Woodsist labels.  However, I like how the vocals are a refreshing change from the overdone (although always satisfying) Ian Curtis-style bored utterings that you so often get.  So, if you are into rock of such persuasions, this one’s definitely for you.  Not to mention, the brains behind the amazing Shdwply label—one of the best kept secrets these days with a slew of incredible releases—bring the same creativity to TSV.  So you probably wouldn’t expect anything less than amazing.  And amazing’s just what you get!  As the Midwest winter approaches, I’m glad I have something that takes me back to windows-down driving, sun-in-your-eyes relaxing, and time-to-kill vacationing.  Take a trip with TSV to somewhere better.  It’s the cheapest ticket you’ll ever buy.
