This split pits the Naples improvisational quartet Strongly Imploded and Finnish trio Matomeri in a chaotic, but mercifully brief, free-jazz cage match.
Strongly Imploded’s side is dominated by crashing drums and honking saxophone, although there’s also squawking guitar and some abstract punches of synth. It seems to be an excerpt from a longer piece, starts high, ends high. Like reading only one page from a book, this doesn’t tell me too much about the group, as they seem to enjoy covering a lot of territory.
The Finns are more guitar-focused, with distorted wringing against cartoonish, volcanic synth, drums mostly cymballing away underneath. This one is even more dynamically static, basically at full blast from the start until an end theme takes it out.
