The man behind South Carolina’s Jefferson Mayday Mayday sounds like an interesting chap: “NASA-employed teacher, visual artist, space creator and musical talent” is how he’s described. But he’s also got a touch of the quirk that results in a dark, casual, baffling (and hot) release like this. Side A, although its origins were definitely not this, occasionally sounds like someone miking a video game sesh through a bunch of pedals: a miasma of synths with layers of music audible, along with a distorted voice growling things like, “This is USA.” The whole side is rather quiet, curiously. The B-side is similarly quagmiricalist, with psychedelic horror-soundtrack tossed-off-ness. In summary: 3-D cover art, glasses not included.
