Shin Buchikama’s drones are some of the purest around. His new tape on Sicsic, aptly named Super Mind for its woozy ethereality, uses feather light synth flux to create a liquid sense of movement around the listener and gradually lift you into cathartic reverie. There are three tracks on Super Mind and all of them employ the same barely-there, goose bump breeze. Nothing bad can happen because any doubt or disgruntlement you’ve ever had is inaccessible here. Darker undercurrents might remind you of less pleasant times but they do so in a way that distances you further from them and they’re so brief as to be impossible to grasp amidst the steady upwards flow. Super Mind is an exclusively pleasant state in which to exist; landing there is not an option or even a possibility and the only fault I can find is that it does not loop on forever… otherwise this is as close to sonic perfection as I’ve heard so far this year.
