Mind Over Mirrors, “Near Your Dwelling” 7″

By Travis Bird

Mind Over Mirrors is the work of Chicago’s Jaime Fennelly (formerly of Peeesseye), who may be familiar to Foxy readers from his releases on Digitalis and Gift Tapes (reissued on Aguirre). Vintage overdriven drones mostly emanating from “positive pipe organ” and Indian pedal harmonium – the latter being an instrument Fennelly has worked with since a stint in Washington State several years ago. Fennelly himself draws a comparison to American Primitive, which I wouldn’t normally associate with Kosmische keyboard drones, but it’s super apt here – there’s something rugged and distilled in his approach, comparable to Chicago tourmates Cleared. A lovely slice.
