White Load, “Wayne’s World III b/w Godfather IV” LP

There are a lot of reasons to be annoyed by White Load, besides its name. The piss-take title, the album cover defacing a Go-Go’s cover, the distasteful press material (“Yes the band is called White Load and the label is Load. Weird huh? Fuck you.”) This is nasty, but it’s not all dumbshit stuff, as “Less Life” proves with its dimestop twists and turns. At least I think it’s “Less Life” – the songs are strung together continuously with only count-ins, with only differing guitar tones (rhythm pickup; bridge pickup) to set them apart. Tempos are more or less breakneck the whole way through. Eventually you get beaten down by the waves of noise coming in at about a minute each, and it becomes impossible to tell which song you’re even on. Then you flip the side and repeat. This is about as brutally, classically hardcore as it gets. It’s like Zen Arcade never happened!
