Lamp Of The Universe is the work of New Zealand’s Craig Williamson. Mixing the sacred and the profane, Williamson here does rather gorgeous Eastern-influenced drones that are sprinkled liberally with drug imagery (side A is called “Sumerian Acid God”). The two sidelong pieces are of a similar mix: pure and ringing string drones that get fairly heavy, with sparse percussion and some modulations to upset the stew. LOTU has been active since 2001, and this is a cassette reissue (of a 2007 release) appearing on Sonic Meditations, the label of Expo 70’s Justin Wright (!). Really very nice work, and perfectly keeping with the Sonic Meditations aesthetic.
