Sugarm self-released an impressive debut last year, Songs About Guns, and now he’s back with a new EP. It’s called “Wasted” for a reason: it seems way more blown out, maybe even slapped together, than his first release. What’s more, there’s some noisy beats on here. Opener “Rockin’ Richie’s (Night Cap)” builds up some flanged-out bass-heavy beats reminiscent of DHR’s more hip-hop leaning artists, especially Bomb 20. “Radiating” covers some Middle Eastern radio transmissions in thick static and crunchy beats. “Community of Lovers” is a small room full of loud, schizphrenic clanging, which segues into “Supermarket Stoner”, which buries some laidback guitar droning behind more blown-out distorted drum machine beats. Also, “Whiskey Night (Roofless)” has all these cartoony “boioioioioing” sounds in it. A fun, short release that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Soon to be released on a single cassette along with its second volume, but up on Bandcamp for now.
