You never know what you’re going to get from Dekorder, but you can always count on it being a solid release.  Failing Lights is far from failing in the execution of these insomniac drones. Taking a gentler approach to drone without moving into all-out ambient territory, Failing Lights is as soft as a dimming bulb. The artist doesn’t bombard you with heaviness either from thick reverb or a multitude of instrumentation, but focuses on one drone at a time with each track. At the risk of using a cliché, the philosophy that this artist seems to abide by is “Less is more.” Quiet yet pensive moods exist and invade your sensibilities like a virus. From standard slight guitar phantoms to lightly treading tape noise bring you into a universe of calm uneasiness and thoughtful sedation. Me? I love this record. It hits the spot every time I put it on. It provides me with everything I like: grounded escapism, existential catharsis, beautiful despair and a sleepless rest that irresistibly resonates with me regardless of my day. A gorgeous snapshot into our traumatized psyches.
