Drifting in from Bridgetown is a soothing collection of six tracks entitled Maroon Bells. It is Kevin Greenspon’s latest; prepared just in time for his huge cross-country tour. Each track builds on the one before with streaming dreamlike imagination via synthy euphoria. The only interruption is the trickling and then cascading deluge of crumply noise that floats its way into the second track on Side A, which is also the title track. Whereas many such bliss drone artists will stretch their tracks out as expansively as a clear blue sky, Greenspon keeps the fluffy cloudlike textures of his drones moving at a good pace. This attention-keeping quality makes the tape one that is a good listen at any time of day, unlike the slower movements of other artists that really beg to be background noise for relaxation after a hard day. Maroon Bells also has an organic richness that captures the busy course of creation as it moves through its life from sunup to sundown.  You feel caught up with the cosmos as you melt away into the natural ambiance of this album. Utilizing guitar, microphone, and tape for his palette, Greenspon has painted a gorgeous skyscape using the soft colors of a sunset. He even did the gorgeous foldout artwork for the tape that complements its theme so well. If you’re a fan of acts like Mirror to Mirror, Imaginary Softwoods, or the more ambient side of Sean McCann then this will fit in well with your collection.
