Hailing from Seattle, Scriptures debuts their psych rock soundtrack on Translinguistic Other. This tape is fraught with dramatics and gripping climaxes. From track to track, you’ll feel yourself beaten and bloodied by its unrelenting crescendos and heavy emotiveness. The drumming and the clashing of cymbals, the climbing and soaring guitar notes, even the very rare washed out vocals are tough to ignore. You are dragged along by pregnant pauses, sporadic but deliberate amplifications, and buildups that lead to satisfying nowhere’s. It is an amazing journey (no better word to describe the pace of the album) that gives you the next best thing in hallucinatory post-rock instrumental storytelling. Overall, a simultaneously fun and intense listen. Honestly, probably my favorite from Translinguistic Other’s catalog so far. And, impressively one of the freshest and most captivating acts in psych music today. Aptly named, Scriptures opens up a divinely inspired tale of mysterious epic lore translated into music. A can’t miss!
