This is the second Nautilus tape I’ve had the pleasure to review, and I dare say it’s even better than the first. “Tatiana” (side A) starts with softly vibrating machine + synth drone. Eventually a rhythmic pulse and soft vocals turn the piece into some sort of mantra. Unexpectedly, it ends with a bit of distant, distorted guitar plucking, followed by some distant glowing orb drone, and then finally some very quiet keyboard drone, almost inaudible underneath the tape hiss. Side B, “Blasters,” starts as sort of a foggy lighthouse drone, with some distant bells tolling. It keeps evolving at its own fragile pace, getting a bit phasey towards the middle and continuing that way until the end, where it washes up into seafoam.
