RJ Valeo released a lovely album entitled September on Type almost eight years ago and has recorded and released multitudes of projects since. His most recent full-length, Atman, flew under a lot of people’s radars last year but, to my ears, it is his best work to date. It’s available from his own Io Records.
Anyway, I heard about this album of hip-hop/electronic instrumentals from John Twells and RJ did not disappoint. Recorded in 1996 and released on cassette in 1997, it still sounds incredibly fresh and relevant. RJ has made this and a ton of his other work available to stream for free on his soundcloud page. I highly recommend checking it out. For now, dig in to Sunrise.
