Early Songs is the moniker of Glaswegian artist David Scott. Amazingly he's only been writing music for about five years (though he's been playing guitar for much longer), but that hasn't stopped him from crafting a dense and beautiful debut album, "Wind Wound," on Australia's increasingly impressive Preservation imprint. Scott also recently began playing the violin after hearing Dirty Three's Warren Ellis (there are vague Dirty Three on "Wind Wound" at times, in fact) which added another impressive instrument to his arsenal. "Wind Wound" is one of the year's most unheralded albums, but easily one of 2007's best. .. feature :: by Brad Rose

It’s a difficult task to categorize Excepter´s work. In fact it’s an impossible one. This Brooklyn quintet defies any assertiveness and makes us wonder about its provenance and destination. We know one thing. It resembles a fluid body of sounds that invades us before evading our surroundings. It never really lefts us but it’s not palpable. It makes as rest but also impels us to movement. They offer us songs that we cannot reproduce with our own voices and seeks to erotize improvisation; sometimes it scares us, sometimes it seduces us. We cannot fix it or capture but we are always after it. They use guitars, voices, drum-machines, percussion, tape loops or human bodies. Everything seems to serve Excepter as an instrument for its instable fluidity between rhythm and dissonance, beats and moans. This is a band to definitely watch for.
