The Zodiacs

The Zodiacs are a power trio consisting of Ezekiel Blackouts III (lead guitar), Grim Jim Gypsy (bass) and Zodiac Speedcreep (organs, drums & vocals). To quote their press release: "Zodiacs burn a heavy trail back to the days where outlaw biker clubs roasted and consumed whole horses in celebration of the wild life." Right...

GJG = Grim Jim Gypsy
EB = Ezekial Blackouts
ZS = Zodiac Speedcreep

How did The Zodiacs came about?
GJG: Clay, Keith and I got bored playing the same eight Wooden Wand songs on tour to empty rooms, so we started this band mid-tour as a way to shake off the doldrums.

Do you have a mission?
GJG: To rock heartily and verily, to oversee the streets running with blood, and to have mothers pull their children closer when we walk into public places like banks and shit.

Tell something about the recording process.
GJG: Recording process?

Was everything totally improvised or did you made some plans beforehand?
GJG: Everything was improvised, we just decided on what key we were gonna play in.

EB: I had to figure out a key that I could play in, when you're wasted d & e sound real good.

How is Zodiac Speedcreep able to play organ and drums at the same time while singing?
GJG: Because he's a genius, a psychological contortionist. Teams rarely trade switch hitters.

EB: Multiple-personality Disorder.

If you want to, you can give some info about your equipment for all those gear geeks who happen to stumble across Foxy Digitalis.
GJG: Tubes preferred but not neccesary. Too many people get hung up on gear and can't play for shit. If Tony Iommi, Randy Rhoads, Ted Nugent or Joe Walsh came to your house and picked up a ukulele, they'd rip your fucking face off with it and melt all your richkid Orange gear.

Why did you decide to release two records simultaneously? Do you think there's some fundamental differences between "Come" and "Gone"?
GJG: Long CDs are usually boring. On the first CD, we've just sort of arrived, and on the second, we're real, real, real gone. Dig it?

What's the deal with the pictures of a motorcycle found on your covers?
GJG: That's my dad. We used to try to get him to stop doing that because in high school we were embarrassed, but now since the war started and the Melvins are more popular than ever, everyone thinks he's cool.

Your favorite power trios?
GJG: Good question. Blue Cheer, Groundhogs, The Human Instinct, James Gang, Rush, Sleep. Canned Heat weren't a trio but they were one of the greatest bands ever, so Canned Heat as well.

EB: Family LSD

Would you like to ask something from each other?
EB: yeah- Jimmy, you stopped wearing the tighty whiteys around yr head? 'Creep, you got a light?

Any plans for the future? Any closing words?
GJG: CD on Holy Mountain, which is very exciting. Occasional future activity when we feel like it. Inevitable tour. Peace thru superior firepower.
