First, I have to admit that I?m not a big house/techno fan, at least not for home listening (with a few exceptions). It can be VERY tiring, even in a dance club. I got the same sensation when I listened to the first track of this compilation. Isol?e doesn?t add anything new to the existing canon of dance music (his second contribution is slightly better). After almost seven boring minutes, the next annoyance is waiting. The Cpt. Comatose track is seriously unlistenable.
I was about to throw the CD out of the window, when Track 3 (Spektrum remixed by Tiefschwarz) started to change things. It?s a monster of a dance track. The combination of Ricardo Villalobos and Two Lone Swordsmen on Track 4 works equally well. Villalobos is one of the more inventive techno producers anyway and his treatment by the Warp grandseigneurs Tenniswood & Weatherall is a pleasure. The tune starts off with a Liquid Liquid like bassline, but soon gets dreamy. It sounds like it was played by a band and not made on a computer.
Unfortunately, those two tunes remain the only really good ones on this compilation. There?s a some more decent material. I especially liked the synth pop of Lindstrom on Track 11. But the vast majority on this CD sounds totally boring. Producers can cite Chicago and Detroit as much as they want, it seems like minimal techno/house has been exercised to death. It urgently needs a fresh creative infusion. 3/10 --
