I?m a music nerd AND a comic book nerd, my twin obsessions cross over in so many exciting ways my glasses steam up if I think too hard about it. The crazy sound effects, the colourful costumes, fluorescent Lycra and the bizarre alien technology- it?s just all too much. But my favourite thing has always been the team ups, when two of my favourite lumbering hulks meet to beat seven shades of shit out of each other.
In this particular encounter Avey Tare of Animal Collective comes across Eric Copeland of Black Dice and rashly mistakes him for a no good, pesky super villain. The resulting clash is sound tracked by low key burbling and clicks, a soothing but ever so disorientating mixture. There?s no explosive ?Kapows!? or ?Kablammo!?s? more ?pffftechk-chk-kkkkk? and ?ckkkkbbbbllll?.
I wouldn?t say that this clash of terrifyingly talented titans has produced a classic this time round, it?s a little insubstantial to really leave much of a mark, but the best thing about team ups is the tantalising chance of a rematch. Now if I could only engineer an encounter between Keiji Haino and Dr. Strange then I?d be a happy man. 5/10 --
