?Terrastock 6? is a compilation that was released in conjunction with ? you guessed it ?Terrastock 6, which took place in Providence, RI last April. This promo arrived in the box sometime after, so there should still be copies floating around the ether (yep, just checked and there are). It?s a diverse selection of some of the festival?s heaviest hitters, including the Magic Carpathians conjuring visions of Diamanda Galas, Amon D??l II and hazy forest revelries with the extended ?Radio Carpathians.? Kemialliset Yst?v?t choreographs hushed tribal dances with ?Paha.? PG Six weaves a delicate acoustic tone poem with his ?Outtake #1 From the Sherman Box Series,? and Black Forest/Black Sea and Larkin Grimm invoke the spirits of a pagan mass with ?On the Cliffs at Fort Wetherill.? All of this, plus fine samplings from the great scattered noise purveyors, Avarus, the hushed transcendent psych dreams of The Spacious Mind, stadium acid rock gods Major Stars, a truly fantastic vocal track by Paik called ?Girl From Jupiter? and the defiant protest noise psych of Bardo Pond?s ?What Are Their Names? (a David Crosby cover!) help this CD in amounting to much more than just another limited vanity project. Lovely album styled cardboard packaging on as fine a compilation of modern psychedelic music as any released in ?06. 8/10 --
