This is a classic post rock act, much in the vein of Mogwai or Explosions in the Sky. I generally enjoy listening to these bands because they create a nice sonic space. Bloomington, Indiana natives, Vopat, are no different which is both a curse and a compliment. There should be something that sets one apart from the wild field of "quiet/loud/quiet/loud" bands. It is unfortunate for Vopat that there are so many of these new era shoegazers. They are not a bad outfit. There are shining moments on their disc "Sometimes It Will". The gentle track, "Pause" and the warm and Fuzzy, "Winter Nails" are good examples of this music done right. The bad thing is that we've just so often heard this done. Usually by lesser musicians who are much over praised for mediocre offerings. I'd like to experience this band live because in that arena is where this music matters. Either it can move you to tears, like the first time I saw Sigur Ros and the crowd sat teary-eyed and sniffling or it can bore you stiff. I'll not name names for the latter. I would give Vopat that chance. I also will keep this CD in play for a bit. It is enjoyable albeit beautiful, even if it is a lot like so many others. 7/10 --
