Sometimes it would be easy to slag cassette-only labels as being a pissing-in-the wind gesture that is part blind love and part attention-grab by romantic smug sociopaths. But that would be a huge mistake for two reasons:
1) Isn?t all rock & roll a pissing-in-the wind gesture that is part blind love and part attention-grab by romantic smug sociopaths?
2) Said labels produce quality music, often, and, as is the case with Thousands, great.
Thousands are a sort-of supergroup, with members of Fantastic Ego and VxPxC, Each side of this cassette features a single fuzzy freakout track, which is all abrasive guitar and visionary color. ?Boneless? adds some creepy vocals and deranged horns to the scarring psych drone, but for my money, the pure adrenaline outrage of ?Skinless? is the winner. The bass lines here are especially killer. The effect on your brain from listening to this tape might be irreversible, but enlightenment and madness always walk a wafer-thin line anyway. Thousands just provide the soundtrack to that emotinal see-saw. 7/10 -- Mike Wood (19 December, 2007)
