Golden Cup is the solo moniker of 8MM head honcho Luca Massolin and this tape marks the first time I've heard any of his music. His label has been churning out excellent stuff for a while, and listening to "Eye Mith," everything starts to make sense. This short tape is an excellent mix of squalid keyboard drones and various other electronics. It's swimming in analog warmth, sounding as though it was all dunked in a smolking cauldron. At times I'm reminded of a more ecstatic Double Leopards.
Massolin uses loops and repitition to great effect, but in the end the drones take on a life of their own, weaving themselves into something distinctly its own. Limited and packaged in lovely silkscreened wraparound sleeves. 8/10 --
