For its 10th anniversary, the Shitkatapult label, run by T.Raumschmiere out of Berlin, Germany, chose a rather uncommon topic. They decided to compile 11 drinking songs by such artists as Deichkind, Fenin, T.Raumschmiere and Studio Braun. The variety of styles is quite staggering as you have Miami Bass style party rap (Deichkind feat. Das Bo), spoken word comedy (Helge Schneider and the most hilarious comedy act on earth Studio Braun), outright silliness (Marc Marcovic), digidub (Fenin) and techno (T.Raumschmiere) amongst others.
Actually there are more misses than hits on the compilation. The good tunes are rare. The cover version of the UB40 song ?Red Red Wine? interpreted here by Shitkatapult mainstay Fenin (featuring Gorbi) is quite good. Also the contribution by Shitkatapult labelowner together with Ellen Alien is very entertaining. The Studio Braun fake call entitled ?Bierchen? is funny as always. But that?s about it. Some tunes don?t hurt, such as the Deichkind one or the rather depressing ?Die Fete? by Reinald Grebe. But a lot of songs are outright annoying. For example ?Die Reblaus? by Marc Marcovic, ?Allein in der Bar? by Helge Schneider (who is usually quite funny) or ?Carambo Caracho ein Whisky? by Anaphie vs. Flex are neither funny, nor do they kick in. They seem like they are the worst of the worst those artists still had in their drawer and were willing to drop.
In total, the compilation seems to have been put together rather hastily. The concept is a good idea, especially since Shitkatapult is a party label. But the way it has been adopted is simply not great. It?s almost impossible to listen through the whole disc without getting annoyed. Therefore, you only pick out the few good tunes. But that cannot be the purpose of a good compilation. 4/10 --
