Saling Records is run by New Jersey born George Glikerdas. The website for the label includes his own art plus drawings and photos by others too. Glikerdas is also the man behind Deep River and this album.
The recordings were made on a four track portastudio and have a fuzziness of sound that suits their style and mix of influences. Glikerdas has a careworn voice which belies his 19 years and there are hints of old blues (My Bed) and grunge (Gills) in the songs, which are augmented with instrumental pieces using Turkish percussion and flute.
As a rough indication of the sound, you might think of Stefan Neville/Pumice. It’s a pleasing debut disc and one which comes with a lyric sheet in a hand stitched package. 7/10 --
