The Retail Sectors "March of the Incurable Workaholic/Song About A Girl Who Killed Herself Yesterday"

The one sheet of this one describes this artist’s fascination with the music featured in the Final Fantasy games. It also mentions that this is going to be released as an 8” clear square late cut record, alas, I was only provided with the CDR version with the aforementioned one sheet.

The sound on this one kind of reminds me of early Cornelius (Fantasma is the one that comes to mind in particular) due to the mixture of digital and analog sounds, and the varied recording qualities used to construct these pieces. The dominant sounds are blown out sounding 8 bit drum machines and a lot of pristine sounding guitar through smaller, punchier sounding amps (por a hemplo, Explosions in the Sky has a similar guitar sound). This is only two songs, so I don’t have too much to go on. I liked this one alright, but I think I would have a little more of an opinion if the release were a little longer since it is difficult to really make much of an impression with such format driven time constraints. 6/10 -- Kevin Richards (22 January, 2009)
