A 3 inch CDR limited only to 50 copies, “demon +” seems destined for obscurity, though so many micro-labels aim for that anyway. Wouldn’t it be nice if in a hundred years some of these cassettes or 3 inchers hunted down like little treasures? But by then who knows? Maybe all we’ll need to do is think of a band, and the nanobot in our brain will download it right into our nervous system.
Scotsman Liam Stefani, here working off of some tracks from drummer Gareth Langford, tinkers with lo-fi, low budget noise. Humming and buzzing, scraping and vibrating, the tunes here approach harsh, but don’t quite get there. Something homey about this; there is always a place in paradise for the little guy in his room, taking apart something he loves and reworking it so it gets even more personal. Skitter probably will not be heard from again, or will, but only in editions of 25. Still, there is human touch and grit to “demon +” that is winning. It also comes with a little booklet, to show that the artist does come outside once in awhile to look around. 6/10 --
