This Tenniscoats release occupies its own space, which is about the greatest compliment you give to any artist(s). Sure, it’s reminiscent of World Standard at times—a wholly commendable thing in itself; it occasionally has that kinder-quality of Klimperei, another overwhelmingly gracious compliment, but there are other things going on here as well, such as overt incorporation of environmental sounds, the feeling of the intimacy of the room in which it was assembled—the rarity of actually feeling you were present at the recording.
Assembled, or
assemblage is a key word here, for while there the undeniable flow of music and melody, there’s also a Lego-like quality of building blocks which give the impression that the music is as constructed as it is composed—something other than mere improve.
If you’re looking for singular folk/ambient music with undeniable beauty, look no further.
