The Seasons is an international project, featuring Rob Mazurek (no introduction necessary), Sam Rouanet and Phil Stumpf of Duplex 100, and French jazz pianist Jacques Rouanet. The songs on this album draw from several genres, but generally seem to fall under the banner of jazzy electronic music. The jazz elements veer a little close to "smooth" territory sometimes, but the electronics keep things from getting anywhere close to elevator music. You won't hear the buzzsaw bass of "Out There" on your local Lite FM station. A few pieces make use of flickery IDM drum editing, but with enough groove to keep things from getting sterile. Some moments are almost reminiscent of Carl Craig's Innerzone Orchestra; others are more like any of your favorite Chicago post-rock bands. On tracks like "Discord", the organic and synthetic come together to create a truly arresting, unique sound. 7/10 --
