Ok, so at first I looked at this disc and thought to myself “Lava Children!?…what the hell do these guys sounds like!?” The answer is that they sound great. This disc has this amazing classic-world-psychedelia vibe to it which simultaneously brings to mind Os-Mutantes, early Pink Floyd and Comus, but at the same time maintains this dark garage pop element which generally seems pretty hard to pull off without sounding like some bad early nineties throwback. Really, this isn’t anything new, but somehow it is done in such a perfect way that the retro-fetishization that usually seems to occur with such attempts never takes place. It instead comes across as the most contemporary of music whose genius lies in its inherent simplicity. 9/10 --
