Side A starts out very low and rumbly, as if concentrating on a bass tone, but being too distorted and limited to focus on that tone; it sounds like it's being constantly interrupted. Or eventually, like it's trapped in a box and can't get out. Second piece continues in this vein, with more echo and distortion. There's a moment where the distortion stops and the bass tone is allowed to breathe a bit, before the distortion comes back on the attack. Third track is where the high piercing sounds come in, but instead of just raping your eardrums, it soars high and then dives back into the fuzz. Then it just sits there. You think it's going to come back on the prowl, but it never does...
Side B seems recharged and ready for action. More rumbling and thrashing about in an echo chamber. Then things strip back to a hum again for a while. A long while. It almost sounds like it's slowly shifting frequency a bit, but then it just poops out altogether. This is followed by another low, rumbly noise, that kind of sounds like an amplified version of a motor running while the car's parked because the driver's waiting for somebody. Then this sound sort of floats around a bit with a few patches of distortion. It seems to get a bit agitated here and there but never really turns into full-blown noise.
This tape is interesting in how it explores distortion of the lower end of frequencies. I can only guess it was made with very limited equipment, and it does what it can to explore such a limited range. But there's still too many passages where not much happens for this to go beyond "interesting" and into "exciting". 6/10 --
