Dead Labour Process is the lone sound foraging of Euan Currie (half of the UK’s Muscletusk), and here it’s a pair of off-world Shatner-era sci-fi explorations. As with other DLP material, it’s rummaging through territories of the past but it’s definitely another further step away from much of the arse-end lo-fiers out there. The opening “Fushwives” is outer space tones in a light broth of sharp murk, its all flex and wobble traversing a lurid landscape via a handheld scanner. The outbreak of sounds and almost-giggles and squeaks gives it light, almost humorous feel. Currie has a (the right side of) eccentric vibe here, but he always seems to let the mould grow over. You think that with a title like “Subzero Aqua Jazz Hands” this would be the more grounded off the two pieces, it isn’t - it’s grounded in something like a gangrened Moomin land. 9/10 --
