Soothing loops of hums and nursery chimes and guitar that slowly winds down into throat-gargling Japanese-esque bamboo-banjo lullaby. A bit of psych, freak folk jive, Chuck Berry and the Beach Boys, pulse-pounding reverb ("Dr. Manhattan"), tongue-in-cheek sea dirges, avant minimal pop rock with a healthy respect for nostalgia, garage organ, expressionism; there's even a bit of Gary Numan on uppers. The album's like an art assemblage wherein all the pieces somehow fit together in perfect harmony. Really hard to explain, but easy and interesting on the ears, and a refreshing quirkiness that put a smile on my face. 8/10 --
