The press sheet says Stars Look Down has been compared to a "Dave Matthews Band for the rock arena." Let me warn you now, the press sheet lies. Stars Look Down is nothing like the Dave Matthews Band and I don't know where the comparison comes from. The music of people from Portland, Maine, and the music of people from South Africa are as different as the locations they originate from. Since their music doesn't really differentiate them in my ears from every other band that you might hear on Top 40 radio that plays sickly sweet ballads, maybe this was their attempt to make themselves sound like something unique. Frankly, they just aren't my thing. But if you're into that introspective, heavy guitar stuff, Stars Look Down is an excellent choice. Their music is very clean; the singer, Trent Gay, hides the silliness of his lyrics very well with his highly emotive voice. If they had sent this album to someone who appreciates this kind of thing a lot more, they would probably have gotten a lot better review, but this is the best I can come up with. 4/10 --
