Prolific dub producer Umberto Echo creates mixes of songs from thirteen countries (China, France, Poland, Italy, Australia, England, Switzerland, and Portugal among others) and fifteen artists (Rastasize featuring Sly & Robbie; Jiang Liang; Steel Pulse featuring Damian Marley; and Dubblestandart featuring Lee Scratch Perry are all featured) on this ambitious record. The sound here is great--if a bit too clean at times--with a very nice use of the layering and spacing of instruments, and the producer's mixes work particularly well on heavier, more expansive tracks like "Metissage" by French group Dub Inc.; a dubstep version of Stereo MCs' "City Lights"; and the more melancholy closing track, "Galli Dani" by Dub Spencer & Trance Hill.
The pace of the collection can feel at times uneven, perhaps due to the singles-oriented nature of the project, but overall as a series of recordings it is always sonically interesting, and as a listening experience is strongly engaging.
