This is one of those releases where the cover art leaves you totally unprepared for the music. There's a drawing of a pink giraffe on the J-card of this cassette, and the thought that immediately struck me on first viewing was that I was going to be treated to one of those tropical/surf/pop records that would attempt to get me to shake my ass... ...slowly. Nope. Spreaders are a creep/drone duo who weave weird synth and indiscernable guitar gobbledygook into shifting patterns of sound. It's dark and it's spooky – it's a direction in music that I've been falling in love with recently. In an interview, these guys (John Piergiorgi and Scott Owen) claim they started out playing 'thrashpunk' but you'd be hard pressed to believe them. I'm of the belief that they're merely a couple of pasty basement dwellers who've watched one too many obscure 70's horror flicks. That's a compliment, by the way. 9/10 --
