The last Head Boggle I reviewed, it really burned a hole in my scalp. It was intense, noisy, malicious in the treatment of synths, and everything a boy could want.
“Alto” is more restrained, not in intensity, but mostly volume. The belches and squeals pouring out of this tape and then that weird folky guitar turns up at the end of side one? New Weird America, my ass, Head Boggle meets John Fahey will chart a new continent entirely.
Side two is definitely harsher, recorded live, complete with audience cheering on the onslaught. Spacey and contemptuous, it sounds like a battle in space, synths as lasers screeching across a doomed atmosphere. A sick and lovely piece of magnetic tape. 8/10 --
