Another volume in the series of excellent discs from the Soundway label focusing on Highlife, Nigerian Blues and rock n’ roll. I can personally attest to how these discs are total party starters. Even the downtempo numbers are still filled with poly-rhythms that fill up people’s motions and movements.
This volume seems a little bit more nuanced in the delivery than previous collections, maybe a come down after a dance party? Maybe a conscious effort to show the less party atmosphere of some of these bands? The highlife tracks are especially enjoyable, slick sounding chunks of radio pop. At 19 tracks, it can be a lot to sit through, but will stay with you for a long time once you get it. 8/10 --
