Whoa! Call for backup! Prurient is vicious, waving its noise and snarls like a threatening knife. I feel like there’s an angry ghost in the machine that I somehow provoked. Lots of static, white noise, and technical chaos on this one. The vocals are garbled like they are blurped up from an electronic soup. This is sheer stereophonic masochism. It is a pleasurable punishment, like getting chewed out by your equipment and saying, Thank you, sir, may I have another? But it’s great! Reminds me of the likes of Gnaw Their Tongues or Wolf Eyes, which do sound very different—don’t get me wrong—but in the sense that this is audible nihilism in its finest and most unadulterated form. Aggressive noise terror that doesn’t quit. Like it, hate it, or love it, “Cocaine Death” demands to be heard. Released on Dominick Fernow‘s own Hospital Productions label, he represents well the great releases that his label has to offer. It’s an album that’ll leave ringing in your ears and aching in your skull but is well worth the aftereffects for eight tracks of aggression-releasing catharsis. Perfect for those bad days at work, trips to the hospital to remove the knife from your back due to betraying friends and lovers, or returns home after time spent with family around the holidays. Be ready for any occasion. Have your emergency kit stocked and on hand. 9/10 --
