On this installment of Carbon Records' 10-year CD-R series, The Dead Machines deconstruct the mythical Fall Off Islands. Wolf Eyes' John Olson and Tovah O'Rourke wade through piles of electronics and destroy everything in their path. Over seven tracks, we are introduced to a place that I hope to god I never go. While you can hear mechanical birds flying and singing overhead, there seems to be something increasingly wrong. Beneath is a melting pot of chaos. White noise and feedback crackle the calm sky and blow it apart like fireworks on the 4th of July. These hollowed-out, nightmarish pieces give a chilling glimpse into what our world might look like in 20 years if the neo-Cons currently in power stay there. There is no life, there is no sun. Everything goes to black. The Dead Machines continue their post-industrial blitzkrieg and leave nothing but a trail of rubble in their wake. Recommended. 8/10 --
