Native Swede, Jens Lekman (formerly known as Rocky Dennis) is an enigma of sorts. He'll play your wedding if you ask him, though he's almost impossible to get a hold of. His voice is hypnotizing and beautiful. Like many great vocalists, singing comes naturally to him. Most of the time, it's as if he's not even trying. He just opens his mouth and rose petals fly out. His voice is somewhere in between Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake. Add in to that, his ability to construct intelligent, catcy pop songs, and this EP is excellent. At only 22, I expect great things in the future from Lekman, and like his native Sweden, he exudes the good things in life. Another young, Scandinavian songwriter, Sondre Lerche, is a good comparison. Both artists are writing material beyond their years. "Black Cab," my favorite track, is the nightcap of a person who just made an ass of himself yet again. He's the friend who drinks too much at parties but insists he doesn't have a problem. Listening to Lekman saunter through the verses, I envision the snow falling in Stockholm as all the beautiful, old buildings pass by the windows. It just reminds me how much I want to go back. This song sounds like it was recorded in 1971. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Every song on here is a winner. 9/10 --
