I don't know what to make of this album. My impression of it depends on my mood. Today, it is raining and gloomy, the typical winter day in Seattle. During these times, this album is a great soundtrack for my mood. I am calm and relaxed, and the heavy electronic influence and deep bass of this album are the perfect complement. There's enough going on here to make up for some of the more bubblegum moments on the album. "Snow White" is a fantastic mix of acoustic guitar picking and heavy-on-the-bass drum loops. Add in some ethereal instrumentation and it's a solid track. Zoot Woman does find its roots in electroclash, and that's a shame because on the songs where those influences come out the most (i.e. "Hope In the Mirror"), I'm left pressing forward quickly on the CD player. Johnny Blake's voice is sometimes too '80s for me. Its too pretty. I think this music could use some dirt and it'd be welcome in the vocals. It's not a lousy record but it's not a great one, either. It'll probably collect dust on my shelf before the next time I remember I even own it. 6/10 --
